We were delighted to be invited by Transport Infrastructure Ireland to give a presentation on the High-Speed Delineation Road Marking Retroreflectivity Surveying of Large Road Networks at their recent Signage & Delineation Conference in Killaloe Ireland. This was well attended by Top TII officials and several County Council members of staff.
Having undertaken this TII Road Network Survey for 10 years, there was great interest in our detailed insights on the planning and implementing of road marking surveys. Our CTO James Mahon COO and John Clarke made presentations and shared some of the challenges that can be encountered during surveys.
We also presented our existing RetroTek-D retroreflectometer system and some emerging technologies we are developing for Future Requirements i.e. the RetroTek-QD ( QD/Beta Day contrast measurement), assessing the % of markings remaining (wear), all important for the day visibility for vehicles using Machine Vision systems i.e. Advanced Driver assist Systems (ADAS) such as Lane Keep Assist & Lane Departure Warning.
We brought along our new combined RetroTek-QD and RetroTek-D survey vehicle, capable of surveying (day & night) the night retroreflectivity (RL), the day contrast and luminance (QD and Beta) across a full survey lane width simultaneously in one survey pass at traffic speeds 0-120km/h.
The attendees enjoyed getting to see the system firsthand and it gave a welcome break from the presentations.
