The Surveyor Transport Network wrote an interesting article in August about how the “Race for driverless cars” is hotting up with Uber announcing plans to roll out self-driving taxis in America, Ford vowing to put driverless cars on the road by 2021 and Helsinki unveiling driverless buses.

It highlights again how in the next few years we will be seeing ever greater numbers of driverless vehicles on our roads. These autonomous vehicles need top quality well maintained road marking lines and markers to operate safely. This will mean that road safety authorities will need safe and efficient ways to measure the retroreflectivity of the road marking lines and markers to ensure that the road networks they are responsible for are fit for purpose.
